Through Art is developed by an award-winning artist and qualified teacher.
All of Through Art's teaching artists are professional artists and qualified teachers. All our teaching artists have completed Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) approved courses in Mandatory Reporting and First Aid, and have been approved to work with children through a Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) National Criminal History Screening Check.
Alise Hardy is an award-winning artist and a qualified registered teacher. She has a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in the Visual Arts and English, from Flinders University.
Alise has worked in the education sector for seven years in various roles as a teacher, teaching support and tutor. She has a background of working with and supporting young people with disability, mental health issues, trauma backgrounds, learning needs, social and behavioural needs and literacy and numeracy difficulties.
While working as a special educational needs (SEN) teacher at an inner city London school, Alise wrote and implemented a school-wide dyslexia intervention policy and program, provided staff training regarding supporting young people with dyslexia, and developed curriculum for a learning program for young people with significantly low reading ages. She has also worked in a variety of roles teaching the Visual Arts, and is currently a contracted teaching artist at Carclew.
As an artist, Alise explores issues of social justice and sustainability through illustration. Her most recent solo exhibition, called ‘Sad’, visually discussed the impact of depression, grief and sadness on young adults. The exhibition won the City Rural Emerging Artist award and was a finalist in The Advertiser Contemporary Art award and the Adelaide Review Outsider Art award. Alise has also had ongoing success commercially, creating artworks for Frederick Stevenson’s wine labels and as a graphic and website designer.
Alise is a current resident at Carclew’s arts business incubator, Fifth Quarter, having been accepted into the initiative for her business Through Art.
Alise's South Australian Teacher Registration Number is 611053.
